No one appreciates the meaning of “soil” more than farmers do. “People from families who have been farming for generations tell you rich soil is a product of rich history. Just from the view of the field, they know their soil is unique. It cannot be mixed with others. It’s just so interesting to learn the stories behind it,” says a sake rice farmer. Reflecting on the history of thousands of years, when they think of what to pass down to the next generations, their thoughts first go to the soil.
